Deputy Smith on ODMPFranklin County Deputy Samuel Smith was killed in an automobile accident which responding to a domestic disturbance call. His patrol car left the roadway for unknown reasons, struck a tree, and burst into flames.
Deputy Smith had served with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office for only nine months. He was 23 years old.

(Kansas Dept. of Wildlife & Parks, Law Enforcement Division)Officer Nihart, age 32, was killed in an ATV accident while policing a music festival at Tuttle Creek State Park. He had served with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks for 11 years. His is survived by his wife and two young children.
